Expiry Alert
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Venusapps Private Limited ("Venusapps", "we", "us", or "our") handles information in connection with the mobile application "Expiry Alert" (the "App").
Expiry Alert is built to be private by design. In short: your vault and your photos stay on your phone. There is no account to create and no cloud copy of your vault, and we cannot see what you save. Optional AI extraction sends redacted text only, and only after you allow it.
1. What We Store, and Where
Everything you add to your vault — item details, receipt photos and PDFs, and reminder dates — is stored only on your device, in the App's own private storage. There is no account to create and no server-side copy of your vault. We cannot see your vault.
Because this data lives only on your device, it is removed if you uninstall the App or clear its data, unless your device or platform backs it up under your own settings. Please keep your own copies of anything important.
2. Photos and Documents Are Not Uploaded
When you attach a receipt image or a PDF, that file stays on your device. The App does not upload it to us or to anyone else.
The one exception is when you share something yourself. If you use Share on an item, you choose what goes out — a text summary, a summary card image, a PDF, or the original receipt file — and it is handed to whichever app you pick (mail, chat, cloud storage) through your phone's share sheet. Only the item you selected is included, never the rest of your vault, and what happens to it afterwards is governed by the app you sent it to.
3. What Is Sent When You Use AI Extraction
AI extraction is optional and is off until you allow it. The App asks for your permission in a dialog before it sends anything for the first time, naming what is sent and who receives it, and you can change that choice at any time in Settings › AI extraction. You can use the App fully without AI extraction by entering the details yourself.
If you allow it, the App sends the text of what you typed, or the text our on-device scanner read from your receipt. For a scanned receipt that is the whole of the readable text — typically the shop name and address, the individual line items, the totals, and any serial, order or reference numbers printed on it. Before anything is sent, the App replaces obviously sensitive patterns on your device — card numbers, government identifiers, phone numbers and email addresses — and the remaining text then travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).
Numbers that are clearly labelled as equipment or account identifiers — for example an IMEI, serial number, policy number or account number — are deliberately left in place, because they are among the details you are asking the AI to pull out for you. If you would rather not send a particular receipt, decline the prompt and enter that item by hand.
That text is sent to our extraction relay, a server operated by Venusapps Private Limited, and then to OpenRouter (https://openrouter.ai/privacy), a third-party AI service that uses OpenAI models (https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy). OpenRouter and OpenAI process this data under their own privacy terms, which provide equivalent protection for the limited purpose of producing that suggestion. Your original photos, PDFs and other files are never uploaded for extraction, and no stored vault row is sent — only the text of the single item you are extracting.
The text is used only to produce that suggestion, is not retained by our relay, and is never shared with the advertising services described below. Extraction is a convenience and can be wrong, so you review and confirm every item before it is saved.
4. Advertising
The App is free and shows banner ads, plus an occasional full-screen ad after you save an item. Ads are served by Google AdMob, which is a separate service from AI extraction. AdMob also mediates demand from Unity Ads, InMobi, Meta Audience Network and ironSource, so any one of those companies may serve and measure a given ad.
To request an ad, the Google Mobile Ads SDK sends its own request from your device. That request includes your device's advertising ID along with device and network information such as model, operating-system version, language, screen size and approximate region inferred from your IP address, as well as ad interaction events. Google may use this to personalise ads and to measure ad performance under its own privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). This happens on every screen that shows an ad, not only when you use a particular feature.
Each mediated network named above receives comparable device and ad-request information for the ads it serves, and processes it under its own privacy policy. We require any such provider to offer protection consistent with this Policy.
On iPhone and iPad, the App asks for your permission before your advertising identifier is used to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies. If you decline, ads still appear but are not personalised in that way. On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in your device settings.
The following is never sent to any advertising service:
Ads are not targeted using the contents of your vault, because the vault never leaves your phone.
5. What Is Sent When You Use the Microphone
Voice input is optional. The first time you use the microphone, the App shows a short disclosure naming the speech recognition service that will receive the audio, then proceeds to your device's system permission prompt. You can decline that system prompt, turn voice off later in Settings › Voice, or change the permission in your device settings.
If you grant permission, the audio you record while holding the mic button is sent to your device's speech recognition service to be turned into text — Apple's service on iPhone and iPad, and Google's on most Android phones. That provider processes the recording under its own privacy terms, which provide equivalent protection for the limited purpose of transcribing what you said.
Only what you say into the mic while holding the button is involved — never your vault, your photos or your files. The App is fully usable without the microphone: you can type every item instead.
6. Reading Text From Your Receipts and Gallery
When you scan a receipt or attach a photo, the App reads the text in that image on your device, using Google's ML Kit text recognition running locally. The image itself is not uploaded in order to read it, and the recognition works with no network connection. The text it produces is what AI extraction may send, if you have allowed that.
If you accept the optional "find receipts" feature, the App reads your recent photos on your device to spot likely receipts. This scanning happens entirely on your phone, and the photos are not uploaded to us or to anyone else. You can decline this, and the App works without gallery access.
7. Permissions
The App asks only for the permissions it needs for a feature you actually use:
You can decline any of these and still use the rest of the App, although the related feature will not work.
8. Feedback and Support
If you send feedback, your own email app opens a message addressed to us that is pre-filled with basic device and app-version details to help us troubleshoot. You can review and edit or delete any of this before sending, and nothing is sent unless you choose to send that email.
When you send such an email, we receive its contents along with your email address, and we use this solely to understand and respond to your feedback or support request. We do not use it for marketing.
9. Third-Party Services
The App uses Google AdMob to serve ads, together with the mediation partners named in section 4, and it uses our extraction relay and OpenRouter (which uses OpenAI models) for the optional AI extraction feature. If you grant the system permission for voice input, your device's speech recognition service — Apple's on iPhone and iPad, Google's on most Android phones — receives the audio you record. These providers process the relevant data in accordance with their own privacy terms, which we require to provide protection consistent with this Policy.
The App is distributed through platform stores, including Apple's App Store and Google Play, which may collect information about downloads in accordance with their own privacy policies. Any such collection is governed by those third parties, not by us.
10. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can address it.
11. Security
Your vault is held in the App's private storage on your device and is protected by your device's own security. Data sent for AI extraction is transmitted over an encrypted connection. We take reasonable measures to protect the information the App handles; however, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data under applicable law. Because your vault is stored only on your device and we hold no copy of it, you are in direct control of it: you can delete any item within the App, or remove all of it at once by clearing the App's data or uninstalling the App. If you have questions about data you believe we hold, contact us at the email below.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above and make the revised Policy available within the App.
